Post subject: Fixing metal hinge on washing machine door Posted: Fri May 04, 2012 1:04 pm |
|
Hello Our trusty old washing machine has had its first fault in 13 years - the top door hinge has sheared through leaving hanging by just the bottom hinge. It's a front-loading Ocean WMP1500A and I think the hinge is alumimium. The cost of replacing the hinge is too expensive (£45). Could it be successfully welded back together? It is sheared along the red line in the pic. Thanks John Attachment: Capture.GIF

Hi all, i have a broken hinge to fix from some patio doors, its a rebated hinge & has cracked off on the corner full length. called into a metal welding shop near me today & he said he wouldnt even bother as it would break again. Is there any such glue that would weld it back together? It will not be carrying any weight as such when its refixed, & mainly cosmetic. Any ideas ...

Post subject: Should I get wet stone or dry stone bench grinder? Posted: Wed Apr 25, 2012 12:37 pm |

By which I mean, up to around £50 new or used. It is for occasional sharpening of kitchen knives, chisels, plane blades, spades, etc. No heavy work.
The round-£60 Clarke CBG8W (and Draper) wet-and-dry double grinders seem to get a pretty bad press and they lack tool guides. I have seen a Kinzo with wet stone only and a reasonable-looking tool guide. Or there's the Clarke CBG6RZ double dry stone for £41.99 at Machine Mart, ...

Post subject: Stolen! Posted: Sun Feb 26, 2012 2:07 am |

So annoying, my virtually new Clarke CM300 was stolen three weeks ago. It was taken with the tailstock chuck in position!
The day after it was stolen I needed a compression slip plumbing coupling which is something I would have made up for myself.
So if anyone sees one for sale without even the chuck key please let me know!
Tony

Post subject: Sheet copper - suggestions where to get rid of it please? Posted: Fri Feb 17, 2012 4:56 pm |

I have some sheet copper that I have wanted to get rid of for ages and am not sure where the best place to do so is. I was going to make jewellery out of it years ago but then decided just to stick with silver so never touched it. Its 2' x 2' and is 14g/2.03mm thick. I did think about ebay but it's really heavy and I'm not sure people would be looking ...

One for the pipe fitters....any of you used it?
Making up some manifolds, all 1/2" BSP fittings, Tees, 90s, ball valves, and brass hosetails. They have said it needs to withstand 18bar, recommended that we use loctite 511...... Put a load of fittings together this morning, can't say i'm convinced, seems a bit thin to me. Expensive stuff too, £20 a little bottle
Still, i guess ...
