 Post subject: electric shower probs
PostPosted: Fri Jul 07, 2006 9:13 am
Apologies if this isn't the proper forum for this, but here goes...

I've an 18 month old Showerforce 8.5kW electric shower which up until last night has been doing it's job just fine.

Daughter switched it off via the double pole pull cord switch last night, rather than the phased shutdown on the shower itself - now it won't deliver hot water...

Any suggestions what may be wrong?

TIA
Gav

 Post subject: bathroom extractor
PostPosted: Thu Jul 06, 2006 8:23 pm
Clarification and help required.
Firstly is it better to first fix wiring for for bathroom extractor fan with 3 core or 2 as I don't know what fan is being fitted?

Secondly - the fan will be fitted to an existing old vent, this being located above the bath - how do I make the connection between the cable and fan, do I leave a length of cable protruding from the wall ready for the ...

 Post subject: I'm stuck :(
PostPosted: Tue Jul 04, 2006 9:53 pm
I removed an old broken pull cord switch from the bathroom and was just about to wire up the new one when i realised that in my enthusiasm I didn't check to see how the old one was wired!

Now I'm totally stuck and the bathroom is all dark.

:(

I have 2x two-core-and-earth coming into the switching unit, how do I wire it up? Obviously both earths go to the earth but I'm stuck ...

Post subject: Installing an electric hob/oven
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 3:18 pm
Hi there!

I've just been gifted with an electric hob/oven. I already have a cooker circuit from the consumer unit with a wall switch. I've never done anything like this before, although I am always mindful of safety. My trouble lies in the wall switch. The box has a switch for the cooker and then another, normal wall switch and three-prong socket.

When I took the cover off the wall box, I could see where ...

 Post subject: Power to shed
PostPosted: Thu Jun 22, 2006 2:26 pm
Please advise:-
I am considering providing power to my shed, 15 metres from the back of the house for lighting and use of no more than 1 power tool (drill e.g) at a time. I have 2 spare fuseways and intend to use 1 for this. From a (30a)fuseway i intend to run a length of 2.5mm cable via RCD to the back outside wall and connect in a joint box to SWA cable and ...

Here as some pics of my new house main unit. Look at the quality!

Dead link removed by admin

The unit is mounted onto an extra-wobbly bit of board for erm...flexibility.

Well, at least the wiring doesn't have a braided covering....

All of our sockets are surface mounted - and i found out why ... almost all the old pattresses are attached to metal conduit ...... anyone know an "easy" way to cut them out ?
Also i changed a single socket to a double and found that the depth of the pattress is deeper - so can i get a shallower 2- gang pattress i.e. 16mm deep or can i cut into the brickwork at ...

PostPosted: Tue May 16, 2006 2:58 pm
Please clarify and advise, can I run 2 spurs to 2 SINGLE sockets from a double socket currently only used for kettle and toaster with no other spurs? The spurs are to supply 1. washing machine 2. extractor hood therefore not in constant use. Many thanks.
