A mod has been installed so that sub categories can be made in order for people to find the information or ask questions in the correct category much easier.
The plumbing forum has 4 sub categories now, but for the electrical forum I was a bit unsure of the categories, lighting is an obvious choice and so that is there ...

Post subject: Conduit, Trunking - Garage, Lights and sockets? Posted: Thu May 03, 2007 5:53 pm |

Starting trying to identify the materials needed for the Electrics in the garage.
Intension is to run separate supply to a RCD CU in the garage.
This will then supply electric to ...
Garage lights and sockets.
Utility room lights and sockets.
Reason to include the utility is the need/preferred protection from an RCD as there is a high chance of the outside equipment lawn mower etc being plugged in there.
I just don't know ...

Post subject: Plug-in dimmer Posted: Thu May 03, 2007 11:37 am |

I've just bought a standard lamp with eight 20W 12V little halogen bulbs. The transformer seems to be in the base of the lamp. I now want to be able to dim the light, so I need a plug-in dimmer. The ones I've seen say they're suitable for incandescent or mains voltage halogen. would they work with this kind of lamp? Or is there something else that would?

Post subject: Advise on run of SWA Posted: Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:03 pm |

Hi,
Need some opinion on the running of SWA (Steel Wire Armour) cable for the garage.
My first thought was to run the SWA out from behind the DU (situated on the inside of an external wall in the lounge), down the outside wall to a depth of 500mm along and back up in the garage, but the ground beam is in now and that would mean excavating below and under the ground beam below ...

Hi..........renovating an old house in disrepair.
Can somebody confirm that I can put a double socket into a lathe and plaster wall. All I need to do is use a kind of dry-lining box?
Thanks. Any advice appreciated.

Post subject: faulty socket HELP PLEASE ! Posted: Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:24 am |
|
|
My fridge and freezer has always been powered from same socket but today they are not working. Plugged them into another socket and they work fine.
The faulty socket doesn't have a fuse but it does have an on / off switch. I switched off mains and checked the wiring connections in the socket but they seem OK, (I tightened them slightly), however socket is still dead.
HELP PLEASE !!
