Post subject: Repairing split electric cable on gas oven
PostPosted: Tue Mar 12, 2019 8:15 pm
Hi, little bit of help needed please?

I've got a freestanding gas oven and hob cooker with an electric plug for the ignition and clock/timer.

The cable has been caught in something and split and tripped out the sockets, which are all now ok and working. I've obviously unplugged the cooker but I now need to repair the cable. I've got spliceline inline wire connectors and insulation tape so I can cut the cable and ...

PostPosted: Mon Mar 11, 2019 3:40 pm
I have installed a small garage consumer RCD box to my shed and run 2 double sockets and a light from this, as you would do a house via the 2 trips (1 for lights 1 for mains)
From the house I have a double socket in my front room that I have spured off from using armoured cable to the shed consumer unit RCD

The problem I have is that about once a day ...

PostPosted: Fri Mar 08, 2019 7:49 pm

My setup: I have a loft mounted aerial with a 10m length of coax cable coming down the cavity wall & outputting into the room with a wall plate socket. I have one device connected to it ATM (TV) but may have others in the future. I'm 15 miles from the Mendip transmitter. TV says signal strength is about 40-50% but picture quality is good.

I've a reception problem which I've isolated to the ...

 Post subject: Wiring a relay
PostPosted: Thu Mar 07, 2019 11:55 pm
I am planning the installation of a 65" television that will be mounted on the wall inside a fireplace recess (the fireplace has been removed) and am looking for ways to hide this big black beast when it is not in use. I have already bought a motorised wall bracket that will retract the TV to the back of this recess, but I am also thinking about using a roller blind to cover the TV ...

Post subject: Understanding the electricity supply to my house...
PostPosted: Wed Mar 06, 2019 11:40 pm
Partly cos I like to know everything... Partly because I'm a geek... And partly because we're going to have some electrical work done on the house which has made me curious.... I'd like to know more about the feed to my house...

The power lines come to us through the garden and reach a pole with transformer. From there the supply comes to us underground. Because the ground is lower at the back of the ...

Post subject: Any musicians about? Anyone done work on a recording studio?
PostPosted: Wed Mar 06, 2019 10:27 pm
Hi folks

I've recently moved into a house and will be converting a large room in an attached cowshed (it's part if the house) into a home recording studio. The cowshed is on its own consumer unit but will be needing a new one and a rewire. Has anyone got any experience in doing electrical work for recording studios? I know it's a good idea to have a separate ring main for the studio gear... ...

Post subject: Servisol Super 10 Switch Cleaner and guitar amp Question?.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 06, 2019 1:53 pm
Hello, I am almost finished building a pine tweed covered cabinet for my Fender Bluesjunior 15W guitar amplifier. As the new cab is finished prior to applying the tweed cloth I have been getting the box ready to refit the parts and test it out. The amplifier and reverb tank have been in a cupboard since I stripped them out of the old chipboard cabinet and when I took them out I thought I would ...

Post subject: 4" Kitchen extractor fan
PostPosted: Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:57 am

I'm looking to replace a wall mounted pull cord kitchen extractor fan for a 4" duct.

Is there any reason as to why a 4" bathroom extractor fan would not be suitable? It seems that 4" fans are classified as bathroom and 6" are classified as kitchen. Is that the only difference?

Also, are there any that people in the trade recommend with a good lifetime and flow rate?
