PostPosted: Sat Oct 21, 2017 11:44 pm
I have AVG free version, and it now takes well over an hour to scan my computer and finds nothing, it never used to take this long, only seems to be since a few updates ago, so I ma going to give it the heave ho.

Question: what antivirus are you using?

 Post subject: Firewall
PostPosted: Fri Oct 06, 2017 6:17 pm
I have just renewed my Office PC and I have removed the McAfee that came with it and installed Free AVG. Now I seem to recall that the free AVG version does not have a Firewall but I cannot find how to check what security measures I have in place.

Can anyone give me the heads up please.

Thanks

DWD

Post subject: How to split an ethernet port on a router
PostPosted: Sun Sep 10, 2017 9:06 pm

I don't think the splitter is faulty, it might just be the wrong one I need. It is from Maplin and is called a CAT 6 Network Splitter. It states that one splitter must be used at each end. I asked them in the branch what that ...

Just thought I'd give this a mention on here (I am in no way affiliated with it, I just think it's a good idea).

https://www.brave.com/

It's a web browser (available for all popular PC and mobile platforms) based on Chrome. However, it's got built in ad & tracker blocking, and built in HTTPS upgrades. Probably nothing too earth shattering there, you may think, as many of you probably already run ad blockers. However they have ...

Post subject: PC temp high on start upthe
PostPosted: Wed Aug 02, 2017 7:07 am
On start up my pc sometimes starts with the fan on max and when I check with speedfan the third of the temp readings is high which has triggered the fan, when I reset bios to default the third temp reading reduces by about 40 to 50 degrees instantly and it runs ok. When in bios the temp reading also shows as high and reverts after bios reset

I have had a few BSOD recently ...

Post subject: Photobucket - heads up
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2017 4:24 pm
If you use Photobucket as a picture hosting site you should read the link below and either make some alternative arrangements or cough up loads of dosh for what's always been free in the past.

You may have trouble logging in to Photobucket, it's a bit busy at the moment, I'm hoping I can get all my pics off of there before they go completely mammaries up, cos I don't think it will be long. ...

They had an issue with corrupted databases yesterday.

Got the following from them that sorted it. Just in case anyone else had this.

Hello David,
Welcome to Malwarebytes support, my name is and I’ll be assisting you today.
There was an issue with corrupted database packages earlier today that affected some 64-bit systems resulting in disabling the real time protection for these machines.  This problem has since been addressed.
To get things working normally again simply ...

Post subject: Alternatives to Windows XP
PostPosted: Mon May 15, 2017 9:34 am
With the recent coverage of Microsoft vulnerabilities to 'exploits' I did a little looking into it.

The list of exploits (serious ones, not the low-risk ones, of which there appear to be hundreds) can be found here:

http://www.securiteam.com/products/W/Windows_XP.html

...showing that XP is not really the system you want to be using at 'any' time if you are serious about your security. OK, if you've applied all the ...
