Post subject: Heat Exchanger on an (at least 12 year old) Baxi
PostPosted: Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:01 am
Morning folks

My boiler started kettling last night, really badly. The water goes hot and cold, (and has done on an off for a while) and the pressure gauge was bouncing around. SO I guess it's a HE and will need to get it fixed. But, I was wondering, if that just throwing good money after bad?

The boiler is at least 12 years old (Baxi Duo Tec 28) and is heating a 4/5 bed ...

I want to replace my current heating programmer and room thermostat with a Smart thermostat. I have an external oil burning condensing combo boiler (Grant Vortex Pro). The current programmer controls the water as well (yeah right!). When I took off the front plates of the thermostat and programmer I expected them to be joined to each other. It seems that they both have separate 3 core and earth cables. The smart thermostat is the ...

Post subject: Central heating Winter/Summer control!
PostPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2019 10:18 pm
As Summer arrives, I want to design a system which will turn heating off when we have a warm patch, and on again with cold patch with of course manual over ride.

On a typical blue clear sky at night the temperature can drop to 12°C but during the day it can sore to 28°C, so want some thing to inhibit the central heating from running when there is likely to be a warm day ...

Post subject: Adding inhibitor, just checking
PostPosted: Sat Feb 16, 2019 5:25 pm
I am wanting to add some Fernox F1 protector (Combi boiler) It says I can add it via the fill loop, but mine only "seems" to have one tap to turn off (not a problem, he said hopefully) so I was wondering is this the next best way (see following)

1) Turn off boiler
2) Put small bucket under drain off valve under the floor.
3) Open drain off valve, fill small bucket
4) Open ...

 Post subject: Temperature Assumptions?
PostPosted: Mon Feb 11, 2019 5:16 pm
Quick question about heat output from a radiator. I spotted on rated at 5569BTU. When manufacturers make their calculations, what temperature drop do the assume between feed and return water temperates, and what room temperature do they assume?

Hi Guys
Hoping someone can clarify wiring a new programmable room thermostat on my grant boiler

PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2019 1:32 pm
Hi All :)

I have been using telescopic radiaor tails to fit the new sized radiators into the space between the existing valves/pipework etc.

But the latest radiator I have taken off has a different sizes connction to the valve - 22mm rather than the others that were 15mm ..

I have ...
