Post subject: Raised Decking Support Posts
PostPosted: Fri Apr 26, 2019 5:03 pm
Hi all, long-time-spectator, first-time-poster here...

I am just after a bit of info with regards to supports for a raised composite decking area. Are the supports generally used simply 4 inch treated fence posts or is it better to look for a structural grade of the same dimensions?

Apologies if it's a bit of a stupid question but I can't seem to find any info on the supports themselves, only the actual floor joists.

Thanks ...

Does anyone know where in the UK I can get a single leaf full swaged butt hinge. I'm installing a cupboard door flush to a wall, so want one the pin offset against one side, with no space between the plates when shut.

 Post subject: Garden Room Advice
PostPosted: Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:49 am

I've not been getting stuck into DIY long and I do enjoy wood word. After building a climbing frame for the boy from old Pallet wood, a hand saw and electric screwdriver I'm in the process of building a little bar.

Anyway, the point of this post is that ultimately I want to build a Garden Room this summer and I'll also need to level the back of my garden for it to sit. ...

Post subject: Integrated freezer side by side
PostPosted: Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:00 am
I currently have an integrated fridge freezer installed in a cabinet. Next to this is another cabinet we use as a pantry. I would like to install a second integrated freezer in the bottom half of the pantry cabinet.
The cabinet is built of mdf with approx 0.5" walls.
Is there any issue placing an integrated freezer in a a cabinet adjacent to an existing one?
As there are shelves above the bottom half of ...

Post subject: Oak flooring installation question
PostPosted: Mon Apr 22, 2019 1:22 am
I'm hoping for some advice on fitting solid oak flooring.
I'm planning on installing solid oak flooring in my living room on the ground floor. It will be on a suspended timber floor.
I would like to raise the height of the flooring so that there isn't a step between rooms. This is really for a family member who is a wheelchair user.
I was hoping to raise it by 9mm using structural plywood. ...

Hello there

I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinion.
I want to build my wardrobe for the attic room I just converted. I have drawn the plan to scale and done the measurements but I am not very sure what is the best way to start.

I am a complete beginner. I have been reading, researching, watching videos and I have a couple of ideas as to how ...

Post subject: What sort of nails are used on pallets?
PostPosted: Wed Apr 17, 2019 6:11 pm
We have been given an old shed for our allotment plot.
I struggled to fix it together as we have no battery operated power tools, don't know anyone with them and can't afford to hire.. I resorted to using nails and
a hammer to fix the sides to the floor and together. As it has a pent roof, I tried nailing the old ply sheeting to the sides but it was before a storm and ...

Post subject: Fitting new stair case material spec and advice please!
PostPosted: Wed Apr 17, 2019 12:49 pm
Hi Folks,

I am currently specifying up stairs to be put in up to our loft.

They include a 4 turn winder which I know isn't ideal but it is the only way we can make the stairs total going work to clear the correct headroom once on the landing.

Our architect has put in his drawings that the large center null post be attached below downstairs floor level to a floor joist, I don't ...

Post subject: Fitting a Wooden Gate at an Angle to Concrete Walls
PostPosted: Mon Apr 15, 2019 9:52 pm
Hopefully the picture helps you to figure this one out. The boundary wall that separates our garden from next door stops at around the tree and leaves a large gap. I would like to stop my little ones running into next door’s garden constantly and would like a wooden gate across this area.

Problem is, the gap is at an angle between the concrete kitchen wall on the left, and the garden wall behind the ...

Afternoon people, just changing door hinges and I have snapped a screw in oak door lining. Literally I am unable to get it out as it has snapped below the wood level. Photo attached. What can I do to extract the screw?
