Artex ceiling, pva'd and skimmed. Have heard a few loud cracks/pops come from it, not that regularly but enough to go in there and think what was the noise. No cracks or anything and everything seems fine. Just never had this before.

Is this semi normal? Also hoping to mist coat it later in the week, would that be ok or should i hold off?

Its a ceiling which i would hazard a guess as it was artexed, probably has nails under it. Its like a real cracking sound, extremely loud.

I reckon when you mist coat it you'll find a few hairline cracks which are making the the noise as they form.

One of my hobbies is pottery, some pots, particularly with earthenware glazes, can continue to craze for weeks (or even years) after firing, the noise that that can make is out of all proportion to the size of the crack - a 2mm long glaze crack in a mug sounds really loud in the dead of night when it's only a few inches from your ear, (on the bedside table with my cold tea in it).

Well didn't hear any more after posting, so will have a look when painting. Its an old ceiling/plasterboard so nothing new there. The only thing is i did cut a section out to get a beam up through from downstairs to up. That was patched up with new plasterboard and has been skimmed also. (could be something to do with that).
