Hi All,

This at the moment is all theory, so humour me a little bit. But looking for thoughts here....it's all about saving money - it's not going to need to last past 4 years, but it's got to work (the place will be occupied - but then it's being leveled).

First, some details:

1. It's a bungalow
2. The old system is dead - it's ALL being ripped out and cashed in for scrap, it's a complete mess.
3. The floors are suspended (and rotten) so access is no problem and super quick for any work to be done
4. I'd like to do it in plastic - like I said, cheap and quick.
5. Rads not sized yet, but proposed location
6. I'd like to put all the rads/pipework in and then pay for a boiler to be fitted (would anyone do this?)
7. It's going to be a combi - no room for tanks/etc
8. Shower in the bathroom is going to be electric

Thoughts?

Costs of boiler to be fitted and suggestions of boilers? (ball park here for planning)
Would anyone do this?

It's the midlands, if that helps with guesstimations (or if anyone is interested in this....).

Cheers,

BG

Lounge rad is badly positioned, it would be better on the door wall, back to back with the hall one.

Depending on the flue positioning, it would also be better to move the boiler nearer the back door to reduce the hot water run as much as possible.

It's possilbe to get the flue out the back wall...it's just the garden. Can't go to the side though.

I checked the pictures and it has to to the gas meter side, no room behind the door - I know there will be stuff carried in and out all day, so it makes sense to keep it out the way for the cost of a couple of meters of pipe/water time.

Do the whole install and just get a Gas Safe plumber/heating engineer to run the gas and commission the boiler.

I don't get involved in heating as I have my plumbers do it. As far as I am aware, you don't need to be registered with any regulatory body for the work apart from the gas part.

Sounds like a reasonable plan.

The next question I have with the pipe work is does it need to be a 22mm flow and return with the branch work in 15mm or can it all be 15 with it being quite a small place?

Hot and cold water feeds all over I'm fine with, no worries there.

Rads, etc I can hang and pipe up no worries.

If it all goes through, I'll be able to work out rooms sizes etc so I can sort all the dimensions and radiator requiremetns.

At least electrics are now sorted

Best doing 22mm as much as possible and coming off in 15mm. I know a few places where it is all done in 15mm (apart from minimal run from boiler) and it takes ages for the rads to warm up.

Mind you these are three storey places where it has been bodged to keep cost down, I presume.

Not sure how it would work out in that bungalow with short runs.

would the hall way or kitchen have no lockshields (in my house, it's the hallway) as a kindof bypass. I see some boilers have them fitted, but don't see them listed in all?

Thanks for this....I'm sure I'm making me people angry with my lack of knowledge here. I don't want to do this as a full time job - just don't want to throw cash away as it's going to be knocked down in years to come.

You can run all the heating pipework and hot n cold water to the boiler location. You can even core the fluehole if you feel strong enough.

You can't touch the gas, or hang the boiler or make any connections too it but to be fair that's the easy bit which is why most guys will be happy to just do the boiler and not the rads

Midlands is quite an area if you pm me or Scruff and narrow it down a bit we may know someone local!

T'other question.....if this property is going to have a condensing combi - what are the options for the condense pipe? Just thinking about the layout and realised the drains are on the other side.

If that makes it not possible to go thatside.....I'm guessing it will have to go the other side and have gas piped across the house (the old boiler is a seriously old back boiler, which I'm guessing isn't going to have a sufficent feed....

Balls.

Not a problem at all provided you can dig a hole and fill it with lime chipping, or buy the right thing.

Congrats on the 1000 posts. :thumbright:
