Hi All,
I just have a quick question about installing recessed halogen lighting in a false ceiling.
I am about to attach the wooden ceiling struts that will support the plasterboard, but need to know how close the lighting cut-outs can be to the wooden struts as I'm aware halogen lights generate a lot of heat, especially in a false ceiling without much airflow.
I am thinking of using regular GU10 halogen bulbs (possibly 50 W).
Struts are 2x2s. How close to the struts can each light be fitted? I'd like to avoid any potential disaster i.e. wood catching fire
Thank you in advance for any advice. |

Thank you for the quick response.
The instructions only seem to state minimum ceiling void space required.
Unfortunately I don't have space for fire hoods. The original ceiling is concrete, and my struts run across the ceiling supporting plasterboard 100mm below the concrete (100mm being the minimum void needed).
Right now the minimum distance I have from outer casing of downlight to any of the wooden struts is 100mm.
Should I leave more room than this?
Would it make a difference if I got fire rated downlights?
Any more comments would be much appreciated. |

100mm should be far enough to be honest, but fire rated ones would be much better IMHO _________________ DIY | DIY Video |
