I decided to impress my wife (girlfriend at the time) and build her some decking 8ft by 10ft at the back of the garden, on a slope. Roughly 8 years ago.

The decking was expensive hardwood from a local timber yard.

My tools were a hammer and a bag of nails nothing else.

I proceeded to build it with my wife constantly saying you should also have a spirit level. I was like yeh, yeh, yeh. After her constantly nagging I borrowed one from a neighbour. Started the build and was adamant that the bubble in the level was off. So ditched the spirit level and continued the build. By the time it was finished it had a slope as steep as Mount Everest.

Later on I decided to go to B&Q and purchase a barbecue for the decking it was one of those ones that have wheels on them. Purchased it because it was on sale. WHAT AN IDIOT. Anyway invited friends round for the evening and had to put two bricks behind the wheels to prevent it from rolling down the slope. To make matters worse the neighbour opened his window and shouted what is the helicopter pad for.

Food was okay though

Razz

Doing any jobs without the correct tools is never easy. If you look at tradesmen or serious diyers they will have thousands of pounds worth of tools.

At least you can look back now and laugh about it Smile

Well at least you were prepared to have a go at doing it yourself Thumbright

Decking can be a pain in the butt!

I have a 4 foot long level and the bubble is too small for the size of the level, which makes it hard getting things dead level!
