Hey Peeps,

So after many years of ummming and ahhhing finally decided to start the extension.

Decided i wanted to do the majority of it myself from start to finish, so got hold of CAD and set about designing. Went through planning twice (my fault i changed my mind) which was an absolute pig. The planners here have no concept or sense between them, anyway im over that now and have the permission.

Then tried getting my head around the Building Regs, which many of you guys have been a great help, so thanks for that. Building control were awesome in providing me with advice so I submitted plans and they flew through.

So 2 weeks ago I thought I’d make a start, was anxious about starting but excited also. So far managed to knock down shed and garage, clear about 40t on soil from front garden and started excavating for one of the foundations.
So much much more to do!

Is the plan just the extension, as you don't show any bedrooms.

I think the extension is the slightly darker walls?

Having trouble uploading plans.

Darker section is the ground floor extension, property is a bungalow so will be installing new room in roof trusses. 3 beds upstairs! Will try to upload elevations plans later!

Got to be touch and go as to whether it would have been cheaper to knock the bungalow down and build afresh and save on the VAT?

designed the biuld to wrap around existing and then connect the two so disturbance should be minimal once out the ground!

So I made a complete cock up on judging the bulking, and ended up carting away 150t of soil/subsoil/clay. Was a mission.

So finally got the excavations passed, poured the foundations, and have started the blockwork.

Biggest attle was all the mud mud mud, but have now blinded over the entire former lawn (drive to be) with road planings, and have started the sub base for the floors.Hopefully get the insulation ordered next week and get the conc floors in before the frosts, fingers crossed!

Such a mess getting out of the ground but keep telling myself it will be worth it!
