So i have 2 computers in the house both running of wireless, wednesday they both suddenly stop connecting to internet, they both connect to network with excellent strength but no internet, also internet light on router is out.
So far I have tried:
1) resetting router
2) Checking router settings (what I know) at 192.168.1.1
3) rang talk talk who checked the line and its fine (didnt check router from their end)

also a 3rd laptop was provided by a friend and this was the same as other 2.
Im thinking router is dead, any other suggestions.

Edit- my friend has his old home hub, can i just use that and replace my router or do i need special software?

if the 'internet' light is out it generally means its not connectting, has anyone been fiddling with settings on the router or your username/password to connect changed?
have you checked all cabling from router to phone line are in sound condition and firmly connected?
in theory you should be able to use home hub but will need to put talk talk settings in etc. if you have these to hand?

can you buy a new wireless router from argos set it all up to see if its working and if it does with identical settings you can prob safely say your existing router is dead (or see if talk talk will send you a new one??)? can always return under 28 day money back guarantee then :D

final thing to try would be to check if theres any firmware updates available for your existing router and if so, as a last ditch apply these.

Thanks mole,

All cabling seems to be intact and connected, and dont think anyone would know how to access router to change settings.
it doent ask for username / password to connect (dont know if thats relevant?).
It says connected in task bar but with yellow triangle and then when you hit ie icon it says cant display page. have tried repair option but says cant repair, contact network admin/supervisor? for assistance.

I have ordered a new router anyway so we will see then I guess, cos im all outta ideas :dunno:

the username/password will need to be put in the router, it shouldnt ask for it unless your using a usb modem or similar.

if you're buying a generic router off the shelf you will need to put your adsl settings in, if you bought it off your ISP it should have your settings pre-configured, you'll need to confirm this with your isp though!

There should be a DSL light, seperate from the Internet one. Is this solid or flashing steadily? If it's solid you have broadband but your usenam/password may be wrong or the router is faulty. If it's Talktalk there's usually a phone number on the bottom of the router you can call for a recorded message that tells you what they are.

If it's flashing there is no braodband to the router. Your ISP will probably try to get out of doing anyhting by saying it's the filter. Change the filter to humour them, Connect to the master socket to make sure it's not an internal wiring problem and call them again.

Quick question, no one has happened to have unplugged any ADSL filters have they?
One person I had a call out for, had his ADSL plugged into the filtered instead of the unfiltered side of the filter. In his case Openreach had been out and had put the connections back wrongly....
Also have you tried a different modem cable (RJ11-RJ11 Square plugs which fit into adsl filters / filtered faceplate master socket) as it might have a break within it.

Is your phone line crackly at all?
