I have used a few calculators which tell me what size kw i would need.

But as of yet i haven't opened up the fireplace, but without doing any work do i need to know what size/height my fireplace is going to be before i get one. Or is it pretty likely to fit? Just in case someone offers me one cheap.

No, it's not a guaranteed fit.

You really should measure the fireplace first.

(spoken from the experience of having to saw the legs down on our stove so it would fit :wtf: )

Am i right in thinking there is a lintel in there and that will be the height i have to go by and how will i know the side width? There is a bit of concrete on the floor at the bottom of it.

The lintel is 'usually' a good indication of fireplace height so it would be reasonable to go with it.

Width-wise it depends on the lintel size as to how much brick work is needed either side of it to support the bricks above.

I'd still go with opening the fireplace first.

I am not thinking of any specific stove, but should one come up at a bargain price at short notice i need the details on what i could buy that would do.
