Right then..im looking for a new phone, ive been on a couple of sites..orange are doing a 15 quid deal 100 minutes unlimited texts with the Samsung u800 thrown in

'3' are doing a Nokia 6500 slide 300 mix and match calls/texts..again for 15 quid..ive never dealt with '3' so they are a bit of an unknown..

Now..ive checked out both phones on review sites..it sems that hlaf the people on one sight say the Nokia is rubbish and rckon the screen goes funny and it freezes all the time..the other half reckon its the best phone they have had

Same goes for the Samsung...mixed reaction..some praising it some saying its no good and commenting on the poor sound when its on speaker phone..apparently common with Samsungs???

So...whats the word?...anyone familiar with these phones and can offer an opinion?

Cheers

And before you ask...yes we do have mobile phones in Wales!

my personal experiences are:

1) nokia are generally excellent

2) 3 are a waste of space, poor reception and crap customer service

You need to check locally for the best reception.

3 around here is good as is Virgin

Virgin do 10quid a month 100 mins and 100 text plus free phone every 12 months.

Traveling the country from Birmingham to the south, and west to east 3 and virgin are as good as any.

Orange was terrible

Should add if you use Tom Tom or another I can link up with that via the blue tooth, and cover virtually anywhere.

The sound is poor when driving though. too low.

What ever you do do not get the nokia 6500 slide, it is the worst phone i have ever had. They have a major fault where the speaker goes wrong and you can hardly hear anything.spoken to several people who have this phone and all have had the same problem. My mate has sent his back 5 times to be repaired.
my wife has the samsung and no problems with it to date.
Been with orange several years now and if thinking of moving networks they will do some really good offers to keep your custom.
At present im getting 1200 x network minutes, unlimited texts, free calls to my magic numbers and free broadband for £45 per month incl vat.

3 have good deals but terrible reception, tried them once but couldnt make any calls and im in london !! took the phone straight back as i couldn't even ring customer services.

Nokia's used to be really good phones, but the newer ones are garbage. I have the Nokia N73 and although it is good for some things it is god damn awful for several reasons.

1. The battery can have three bars one minute and then be completely dead the next.
2. opening text messages can take 10-20 seconds, it is easier to read a letter than a text message.
3. It has changed the ringtone by itself, now when someone rings me in a public place I am waiting for someone to answer my phone because I do not recognise the ring tone.
4. The predictive text is really poor and if you mis-spell a word it remembers it and then when you type the word in again it remembers the mis spelt word and uses it. For example the other day I was typing in you, but pressed yot by mistake and then pressed the space key, now every time I type in you- it comes up as yot and I have to press * to change it to you ::b
5. Someone sends you a message with a number in the message in it, you can highlight the number and then select copy- but there is no option to paste

One thing that is ok though is the tom tom software that was installed, with a GPS receiver it makes a pretty good sat nav

I forgot about the ring tone change the 6500 does it too if the phone takes a knock. Try dropping your phone onto the carpet and watch it change the ring tone.
nokia have spent too much time on cramming in new features but less on getting reliability.
Sure the cameras are good but i need it to function as a phone first, if i cannot hear a cal what is the point ?

got a 6220 arriving tomo as the reviews seem ok but until that arrives im relying on the vans handsfree just to hear a call :cb

Btw slightly off topic but the parrot handfree kits are superb.Just pull out the stereo and plug it in and away you go,brilliant reception through the stereo and clarity for the caller.

CHeers all..I eneded up with the samsung u800,..too many bad reviews about the 6500

Its an 'ok' phone..just.

Plus points..

Very slim 9.9mm

Light

Stylish..ie doesnt look like a kids toy.

Good size keys and screen

Plenty of memory if you need it.

Very good camera if you use them..i dont

All metal body.

Cons...

Set up instructions are crap and too full of their own terminology

Not very loud..im a bit mutten due to heavymetalitis..

Fonts are quite small..and me eyes aint what they used to be.

:cb

In summary...its not going to set the world alight or ever have the 'iconic' tag before its name...its.....'ok' its a rover 400 not a audi...

The industry really need to cut the crap out of the phones and stick to what they are meant for..but that aint ever going to happen is it.

Unless you buy the motorolla f3..which I would have gone for if it wasnt for the really bad reveiws regarding operating it...motorolla could have had a massive winner on their hands and they blew it.
