Hi

I am having my upstairs bathroom changed. When the plumber took out the old bath tub and washing basin yesterday, he turned off the mains stopcock and the hot water valve in the airing cupboard (connecting the water tank in the loft and the hot water cylinder). Later on he turned the valve back on. However we later found out there is no hot water from the mixer shower (using the hot water from the cylinder) in our bedroom on-suite, only cold water coming out. But all the hot water taps in the house work ok and the hot water pipes in the airing cupborad is indeed warm/hot.

What could be the problem causing the hot water failing to reach the shower? The plumber does not have a clear clue, he guesses there may be trapped air in the pipe leading to the shower. Is this diagnosis correct? Then what is the best way to remove air?

Many thanks.

He could well be right about an air lock, in it could also be some muck got in during the process.

Have you a seperate HW outlet (boss) on the cylinder for the shower hot? Is there a seperate HW isolator for the shower that he has forgotten about?

Usually a shower has it's own hot and cold isolating valves.

You could try somehow to remove the shower head and link the flexible pipe to a cold mains tap, turn on the hot, then the cold mains tap and blow back through it with the mains pressure to remove the air lock.

Sounds like a 10 week CC ::b

Air in pipes.

Filter or fittings blocked.

Valve not adjusted according to MI's

Faulty valve.

Service valves not turned on.

Not connected correctly.

Hot and cold the wrong way round.

Valves gonna have to come out to check most on the list.
