Ladies, Gentlemen and fellow goats....

Just doing a trail run install of the shower before I get my bush board up (fnarrr fnarr) on the walls and wondered what was 'normal' for a mixer shower in terms of the tails sticking out.

It feels alright on the wall with little movement and I've not even used the lock nuts (saying that, I can only get one side on.....this is NOT a stud wall with rear access), I just wonder if this looks OK.

Ignore PTFE, it was used for some cap nuts while I was checking for leaks....couldn't be bothered to take it off.

Behold....

Looking good

Should be ok as long as panel not thicker than the threads showing ( with ptfe tape on),as that is the space you will have to play with

is shower up side down?,is so and fitting that way for,say rigid riser make sure hot and cool right way round

I hate stating the obvious, but it is upside down, is it not?

Other than that looks fine to me :thumbright:

Thanks for the input chaps, appriciate it!

It's 100% the right way round, the top hole you can see if for the rigid riser and there is another underneith for the hose attachement thing. Got the hot and cold the right way round too, there are red and blue spots on the back and I've marked my pipes the same colours.

Was worried it needed cutting down, but mocked up some board the same thickness as whats going up.....I must admit, i'm quite excited! Scared of cutting the board though for the holes.....it's bloody expensive stuff!

I just love the way you've gone all "Arty" with the contrast of colour and Black & White in the pics...

Nothing useful to add though.

Two other questions regarding my shower install. Don't want to cock it up and have to pull the boards off the wall (full bathroom pictures when I've done the shower to go into my project!)

There is a place on the threads to hold when tightening the shower nuts.....any ideas of a tool that can fit in such a small space? All my grips and pliers are all too wide...You can see the cap above and the thread looks like this:

Also, there are these bits that go in the valves....are these needed? I saw a bried mention of flow restrictors. I know the strainers are required (even though it looks like there are some built in), what about the rest? The book just gives an exploded view with no detail.....don't want to put extra stuff in that will reduce the flow with no added benefit!

As I understand it the flow restrictor is to allow a balancing of hot and cold to get the mix right. If the cold dominates the flow then the restrictor would help achieve balance.

So what is the mains pressure like and is this running off a combi?

Ahh, I'll leave the restrictors out then!

Can achieve around 19lpm here at the busy times of the day....not too bad considering I've got a lead supply. I'm at the bottom of a massive hill though. Boiler is indeed a combi, Baxi Platinum 33HE

(Edit: I know we arn't going to have a 'power shower' experience, but it's going to be better than the electric shower I've been living with for god knows how long!)

I would use the restrictor rings, would have thought there would be a washer where you show.

Thin adjustable or the right size spanner.

Top notch...I'll treat myself to somthing that'll fit. It's almost like I need one of those bike spanners you used to get years back with the multiple holes - that kindof thin.

I'll try with the restrictors in.....makes it look like no water would get in!

You may find you'll need the restrictor for the cold and not the hot. follow the mi

For a 33kW combi I wouldn't fit any restrictors personally the valve will be able to cope with a certain amount of imbalance anyway

And it shouldn't be all that far off a powershower albeit not in the same league as some of the swanky hotels you frequent
