It's a con!! they always are.

These people never sell enough tickets to cover the reserve price (aka the price they cannot sell the place for anyway) and the prize becomes the vakue of the tickets sold MINUS the sellers expenses in running the raffle.

Load of rubbish !!!! :boxing:

Not feeling lucky then Hoovie

They have sold over 30000 tickets so that only 16000 to go in 3months, I reckon they will get there.

Probably find a family member wins but that another story.

I was tempted actually

I read this story on the BBC website and then read some associated links and in every case, what I posted before happened - and I reckon it is a right con! a raffle is a game of chance for the players and the organisers, but it seems the organisers can changes the rules to suit themselves, and that I disagree with :cussing:

He will do nicely out of it whatever happens, 38k is the break even figure so anything above that is extra profit.

The guy could sell 45000 tickets which is above the valuation at £1,125,000. close the draw and pocket 35% nearly £400,000 and still have the house :thumbright:

Mind you some lucky SOB will still get £750,000

the figure includes all taxes/stamp duty etc

so you don't have to pay a penny if you win, which is why the raffle sells more tickets than the property is valued at

I think its a great idea personally as someone who currently wants to move and can't get anyone to even step inside the door to have a look, this a great way of beating the system

I think its great as well and for 25 notes.

My only problem will be affording the upkeep and running costs, its sort of outside my budget

I've bought a ticket for this kind of thing twice in the past and both times no more was ever heard about what the outcome was and of course after time passes you tend to forget to look into checking the result.

Think I'll save my money this time.

Indeed,

I would love someone to post an example in the UK where someone has ACTUALLY WON the stated prize of a house in this kind of raffle. ::b

This is exactly my point - the "winner" of the raffle did NOT win the stated prize of the house, they won £73,000 :cussing:
The stated prize was a house valued at £235,000 ::b

Bludall wrote:

The current ones get round that by having a question needing to be answered as part of the entry - so it is not a pure game of chance,

Anyone else find a house winner??

I'm not surprised as it's been in the papers and on tv according to Google. The trouble is that if you won, you'd probably end up selling because the upkeep would be too high for most of us.

Hmmmmmm...... Maybe I won't

Anyone fancy a bet that the raffle winner will not end up winning the house? :thumbright:

Can't see how he can get out of it if he sells 46000 tickets, the conditions are pretty sown up
