I am looking for someone who could make a small adaptor for me.

I have recently bought an old camera tripod and I would like to make it into a table lamp. So I need to produce a short cylindrical piece of metal that can screw onto the tripod at one end (ie it would need a female screw threaded hole). The other end would allow a standard lamp fitting to screw on (again, female and threaded). At this end, at the base of the hole, there would need to be another hole drilled a few cm down into the metal then with a perpedicular hole drilled out to the edge of the metal. This would allow a cable to be passed through the metal into the base of the standard light fitting. Ideally the adaptor would be made from Aluminium or steel with a polished or machined external finish.

As this is a one off piece I don't really know where to start looking to find someone who could make it. If you could help in any way, please send me a message. I will produce a drawing with sizes etc. Much appreciated.

Justin

Can you post the drawing here to give more of an idea...particularly the threads involved?

Thanks

Hm, i see what you want.
Iirc, tripod threads are normally a 1/4" x 20 (whitworth thread)
Think the lamp holders are 1/2", not sure of the pitch..... think its 26..but not sure

When I made brass lighting we used a 1/2" and 10mm thread, but iirc both were 1mm pitch...it's been a long time though

I'm getting somewhere. Found these bits on the internet...

http://www.lampsandlights.co.uk/moredet ... lhchrome11
and
http://www.lampsandlights.co.uk/moredet ... p?ref=bb81

Now I just need an adaptor from 1/4" (the tripod male thread) to 1/2" (the femal end of the 'side entry tube' above).

Any ideas?!

Cheers for the comments.

Justin

I have a 1/2" BSB die, ill have a look and see if i have a 1/4" Whitworth tap.....may be able to help you out.
Would just need a short piece of bar, threaded outside, drilled and tapped for the tripod bolt.....

I was thinking about this problem the other day, saw one of these, and though it might be an easy option....

Thanks for the offer of help Hitch... much appreciated. It turns out the other end needs to be 10mm, not 1/2".
I now have the other 'bits'. So I just need a thread converter, one end 1/4" female to go on the tripod. The other end 10mm male, to screw into the lamp bits. (The thread at each end need sto be about about 5mm). If you can help me I would be happy to pay whatever you think is a fair price. CHeers. Justin

When you say 10mm, if you can tell me what thread it is, I may be able to help.
M10 x 1? 1.5?

This is what I have been told about the thread (I don't know about these things):
"The female part is 10 x 1m tpi"
Does that make sense?

1m tpi? :?

Lose the TPI, and it makes sense.
The 1m(mm) will be the threads are 1mm apart per revolution.

TPI, is threads per inch. whole different system.
I shall have a look over the next few days.
