Hi,

I'm trying to connect a flexible 1/2" metal pipe connector to a 1/2" thread on the bottom of a plastic float valve in my toilet. I've tried ptfe and plumbers putty but I can't get a seal under mains pressure. I worked out that tighten too much makes things worse rather than better but I just can't get a seal.

Help please.

Simon

There should be a little fibre/rubber washer in the fitting.

Make sure you don't cross thread it.

The plastic thread may be scored or damaged. Once this has happened it will need a new inlet/ball valve fitted.

Yes there is a washer.

I don't think I've cross threaded it.

That is very true, brilliant fitting, good for under baths as well, and you can make the flexi up with a length of tube.
