I am overboarding a ceiling soon and just read something about mending plates, looks like they mean the end of the board doesn't have to find a joist???

I haven't used these or heard of them..

Where do you get them and how do they work??

Are they any good??

Cheers

Mending plates are just flat steel plates which you can screw into using drywall screws. They allow you to end boards without a joist, reducing wastage and saving valuable time. You join the boards on the mending plate and it prevents the ends of the boards flapping

I only use them on double boarded jobs on old joists or when boarding over other things, especially lath and plaster. They cost about £ 2 each.

Minsters Insulation or Sheffins have them, alternatively all good ceiling suppliers and dry lining suppliers will have them. They are made by British Gypsum amongst others.

Mending plates are flat so they fit between the lath and plaster and the new boards. Track, Stud, or Top hat wouldn't because they aren't flat so you would have to cut them up to use them in this situation.
