Hi,
I have a small recess in my games room and would like to make it flush with the rest of the wall ie make a stud wall and plaster it to match the existing wall. I am considering building a shelf into the stud work so my tv screen is flush with the wall, so from the front of the wall all you can see is the front of the tv. I am happy with making the stud work but how is the best way to put the shelfing in and how is best to attach it to the stud work.
Hope this makes sense.

| The recess is deep so should be plenty of room for the air to circulate, i dont want the tv to be in a box in the recess it will be stood on a shelf in the stud work so venting should be okay, i am just not sure best way to attach a shelf to the stud work i create. |

You could decide on the height of the shelf before starting the stud work and put extra noggings in where the shelf will be, then you will have some support and also something to screw to. ( if you where doing a kitchen wall unit, you would try to find the stud to screw to, for extra support. simular principle ) _________________ JACK OF ALL MASTER OF NONE........ Firstly thanks for everything upto now appreciate it. I am thinking about doing this myself rather than a joiner soley because i will be plastering it apart from the hole for the screen so my thinking is the plaster will cover those multiple sins i will have made on the stud work dont have to look pretty as its covered, is this the right way of thinking or not.
Also the stud work will be fixing to stud walls at either side if i cant find the studs in the joining walls to fasten my stud work to whats the best way to fix m stud work to the ajoining walls and also what sixe timer should i be using for the stud work.
Thanks again in advance.

well if i understand right its like an alcove, so if its made of stud walling, the ends will be a stud. cant really explain properly, ive just done a simular job in a salon, where she wanted a alcove studding out flat so she could hand a long mirror but mine was to brick work. i used 3x2 studs with extra noggin to support the mirror and cladded with 12.5 plasterbourd which prob sounds a little hefty but it needed to do a job. _________________ JACK OF ALL MASTER OF NONE........
