New to the website and my first post so please excuse me if my question is basic. My father in law would like his loft water tank disabled and taken out of use. It currently feeds the WC cistern and cold taps to the bath and wash hand basin in the toilet. My plan is to tap into the rising mains supply and divert to the existing pipework from the tank. Someone has mentioned that there may be a problem with the mains supply pressure going into the WC cistern. Will that be a problem and if so, is there a solution to restrict the water pressure into the WC cistern? Any advice will be gratefully received - thanks in advance.

You will need a high pressure ball valve.

What are you doing about the hot water, and the boiler.

Thanks Scruff, I just knew you would be the first to come up with an answer. The hot water is being provided through a combi boiler which was fitted as part of a programme to provide CH to Senior Citizens leaving the loft tank serving only the cold supply to the bathroom. Where should I locate the high pressure ball valve, just below the entry into the cistern? Thanks for your help with this.

No inside it Laughing

You need to change the float valve in the cistern unless you can source a high pressure nozzle.

Post a pic of the inside of the cistern

Oops, sorry if that sounded like a real amateur - that's what I am! I'll post a pic tomorrow once I've visited my FinL's - we're both very grateful for your help.

Super Thumbright

You see that big nut on the right, if you turn the water off and undo it, clockwise as you look at it, inside there's a plastic nozzle with an hole in the middle, if the hole is about 4mm then its high pressure if 6-8mm its low pressure and you need to change it or the whole valve.

To do that you drain the water out of the cistern and unscrew it from below

Scruff - just to let you know that the local plumber recommended by the council who "administer" small jobs for Senior Citizens done the job including all parts (valve, T piece, end caps etc.) for £75 -Father in Law happy with work and price so everyone's a winner. Thanks for your advice - tried to register thanks using the tab on the website but the option keeps disappearing.
