Hi - I was wondering if anyone knows the diameter of the incoming 100 amp mains cable. I have a recommended 32mm duct in the ground which is paved over but I thing the duct may be creased as drain rods are tight to pull through. Electric company coming in a few days to lay new service and would like to know they will be able to pull through ok - Many Thanks.

I don't think drain rods are the best thing for electrical service duct. Is the duct the proper one for main electric supply or did you use normal drainage duct?

Thanks for replies - ended up digging up the flat spot as duct had gone down under weight of digger I suppose - anyways got a string through in the end and Murphys done a sterling job.
Now I have a new querry - I have wired smoke alarms in series ie feed from c unit to hall smoke and from hall smoke in three core to landing smoke on 6 amp mcb which I will change to 6 amp rcbo to bring it up to 17th. Also will change the rest of the 4 light circuits to rcbos leaving the power rings and cooker on split rcd. Is this right - Im now told its illegall for sparkies to do third party testing for self certify but bld reg drawings were passed on 16 edition. Ooh er !!!

They won't work - you should have wired them in parallel.

Nothing has changed regarding Building Regulations certification rules with the introduction of the BS 7671:2008. It was always illegal for an electrician to lie about having done work which he did not do.
