I was going to run some breathable membrane horizontally across the rafters (stapling it in place) because swmbo didn't want any dust falling onto stuff stored in the loft.

Now she's decided that we should have the rafters visible. Can I run the lining vertically and staple it to the inside faces of the rafters? Or is it just a waste of time?

Can you not just put a dust sheet over the stored items?

Probably. But then I'd get grief from the missus.
