Strange query, I know, but I'm trying to repair the rubber heel of a walking boot!

It's split on the side allowing the rubber inside to crumble and fall out, so I want to fill the void with some sort of rubber solution that will bond with the existing rubber. I'm looking for something more resilient than expanding foam but with more 'give' than fibreglass resin.

Any suggestions?

I have used silicone in the past and it has worked quite well.

What sort of silicone? Do you mean the stuff in tubes used for sealing baths and window frames, etc?

Yep just whatever was on hand. It seemed to hold up ok and made the shoes last a bit longer.
