Best type of lighting for a commercial building 30m x12 m roughly it is an old grain store and now houses 12 stable bays. There is currently 2 70w sodiums at either end of the building but there rubbish. I was thinking fluorescents. 10 in total any ideas??

I replaced all the florescent lamps in one building with a 20 foot high roof with 150W low bay lights and it worked A1. So next I did the same with a building with 10 foot high roof and it was a utter failure.

Lighting is complex and colour of walls and ceiling plus height of ceiling can make a huge difference in what is required. Luck many of the suppliers will do a free survey and recommend what type to use. I always try to use plug in units, either lighting track or Klic plug and scoket. Then don't have to switch off all the lights to work on them.

Using HF florescent units reduces maintenance required and amount of power used. Also available as emergency units so safe egress with power cut. Do be wary with discharge lighting with warm up times. I had to fit these spot light emergency lights with timers that keep them on for a few minutes after power came back as a short power cut would plunge the place in darkness for 5 minutes until low bay lights could re-start.

Think the best route for me is going to be flourescents. Been doing various searching around online, do you know of anywhere where I could pick up 9 lights in total (weatherproof twin 58W Standard Fittings) for around £20??
