Presently replacing a 16 amp automatic lighting dimmer (installed in a home cinema setup) with a new one. The old dimmer feeds three seperate 5 amp circuits (there are 3 internal fuseways inside the dimmer for these circuits). The new dimmer just has a single 16 amp output.

I need to provide three seperate 5 amp sub-circuits for these existing circuits external to the dimmer. I was thinking of using a three or four way consumer unit to do the job (with the input being fed from the dimmer). I am not sure whether I should or should not leave the double pole isolator in this consumer unit or wire directly to the first MCB and then across to the other two. I am concerned that leaving the double pole isolator in the consumer unit will erroneously suggest that this isolates the entire dimmer circuit. In reality it will merely isolate the feed to the three sperate sub-circuits (not the dimmer unit itself).

The entire circuit may be isolated BEFORE the dimmer unit via a 20 amp double pole switch.

Any suggestions please!

Good of you to appreciate the potential hazard of what you intend.

Why not use the 2P isolator to isolate the supply TO the dimmer then the output of the dimmer feeds the three separate 5/6A MCB's?

That way the supply IS isolated to the whole.
