Bad smells in ground floor of house this evening. After lots of finger pointing and angry denials the smell was traced to the downstairs toilet. The level of water in the pan had dropped enough so there was no seal to the sewer. Toilet flushed...job done! I've kept an eye on it this evening and the level hasn't moved

Any ideas what would cause this? Pressure drop in the sewer? It's a bit windy here tonight, but not gale force...

There's no sign of any leaks, I've never seen it before in 4 years of being in this house and the other 2 toilets on the upstairs are fine.

Thanks for any help

Probably some thing stuck on the bend that acted as a wick.

Keep an eye to see whether it does it again.

Thanks - hadn't thought of that. Seems OK at the moment so I'm not going to worry. There's a removable cap on the back of the pan connector so, if it happens again (and I'm feeling brave enough), I'll have a look what's happenning
