I have recently had three quotes to move a boiler about 1 metre. I have decided not to move it now due to cost and the issues each raised. One told me that the pump had to be reinstalled as it was installed lying down. That would cost £150. I mentioned it has appeared to work for 22 years and they responded it is poor practise. The other told me he had to run a 22mm pipe from the main supply 12m from the boiler as it was considered very bad practise (if not contravening the legislation) to have 15mm gas supply to the boiler. The boiler is a Vaillant Eco Tec 428. If it is contravening the law I would like to know which one and when it was introduced.

He went on to tell me Vaillant would invalidate any warranty if they saw it. Is there anyone who can comment with authority on these statements?

Pump Is best installed with the shaft Horizontal although I always turn the end to face up a couple of %.

22m for the gas is just about ok, provided you have nothing else connected to the same pipe, and it isn't ant more than 12m.

Hi Scruff, thanks. There is nothing else connected to this pipe but we do have a gas fire and gas cooker elsewhere.

i just know I will be challenged on the point you make. Is there an agreed calculation anywhere I can use? Where does the 12m max length guideline come from

28Kw boiler running on 12m of 15mm.

Way undersized. This will need to be 22mm minimum. Could be larger if lots of elbows in the run.

Agreed Dave I think I read the post wrong, 15mm is way too small and 22mm is only just in range. I edited my first post to read 22mm.

Outahere.

There's calculation that can be done given the correct information.

Total length + the number of bends etc + the appliances connected to the same pipe.

In keeping with other forums we don't give gas advice, but if you tell us exactly what you have we can say whether it's ok or not.
