in our house theres something like 30 gu10 mains voltage 50 watt bulbs. nowadays theres all these led versions available.

whats the craik with them? sparky i was talking to reaconed each mains gu10 would cost on average 20 quid a year to run whereas the led bulbs would cost 2 quid per year for the same amount of run time.

we have tried the low energy bulbs but they were pretty rubbish like.

do these bulbs come on full brightness or have they a warm up time?

any ideas as to average prices? mate of mine is a manager for a sparkying shop and he reakoned he would get me them for like 8 quid plus vat each.

thoughts appreciated chaps.

LED versions light immediately. Beware the Chinese knock-off versions as they tend to lose light output and/or fail rather quickly.

A 50W GU10 if used for 6 hours/day would consume 6x50x365= 109500W (109kW) per year and at £0.12p/kWhr cost £13/year to run.

Dropping this to 5 watts would only cost you one tenth (i.e. £1.30) per year - PER BULB. In other words, taking the purchase cost of a DECENT make LED bulb into account, you would recover the saving after only one year.

The only downside (in my opinion) is that the light is concentrated in a 'spot' and can be 'harsh' to the eye although some of the 'soft white' versions are supposed to be better for this.

I need to check the switch wiring tomorrow, but can't find anything wrong with connections down from there, so maybe dodgy driver, and it is Chinese. Just seemed strange that it didn't flash until it was moved, but maybe it's failed. Just wondering what I can tell the company I bought from, how do I show it is no good and return it.
