Hi I recently erected a conservatory ( on a new house) . Access to the conservatory is through french doors - built as part of the house construction. However during the last few days of heavy rain there is water coming into the conservatory through the house wall - in particular it seems that it is dripping from the lintel but the whole wall seems damp. It is not leaking through where the conservatory meets the hose - this is fully sealed and no water present.
There are weep holes built in however no water seems to come from these.
I contacted the builders who say that this is normal and that you wouldnt normally notice it as would be outside !
So I'm after some help as to what I can do to rectify the situation. |

it isnt normal for it to drip from the lintel. the weep holes are really just for the odd weep into he cavity.
i would say water is getting in throught the eaves or something like that.
the builders are right though. you wouldnt normally see it. |

Hi Charlie,
Firstly i would check with your guarantee if your house is new it should be covered by some type of insurance guarantee with the builder ie NHBC or Zurich, failing this you need to find the point at were the water is entering the cavity as this is what seems to be happening.
Also try to discount any leaking pipes, what is unusual is the absence of water from the weep holes this seems to suggest that there is no cavity tray above the lintol. You may need to install a cavity tray above the the leadwork on your conservatory. But firstly you need to eradicate the water/damp problem as this should not be present.
Hope this helps _________________ What was the best thing before sliced bread? |

| The best way and proper way is to dig a 2 foot wide trench outside along the wall and down below the depth of the crack by about a foot. And then get some masonary tar and paint the cement wall. The tar, seals it from leaking. Next get some 1/2" crush gravel and dump that in the trench. Then your soil on the last6-8". Done. |
