Hi can anyone help me with this query? I have rather neglected a problem of a leaking gutter and I have noticed a number of damp patches on my wall paper on the end wall of the bedroom directly under the leaking gutter. I have stripped back the paper and it feels dry but where a previous owner has filled holes in the plaster, the plater surface has gone a bit powdery and a sort of fungus was appearing on the wall paper on top of it. I am thinking of artexing this wall to cover over all the imperfections. I have looked at the stonework on the outside and there is a discoloured wet patch where the water has run down - my question is, after I have had the gutter replaced do I need something doing to this soaked-through stone or will it just dry out on its own? Does some coating need to be used on it or does it need repointing where the wet bit is? Comments greatly accepted!

Once the suspect problem is remeded I would leave the stonework to dry out naturally (especially given the time of year), though it may take months if it is a thick stone wall.
Have a look at the pointing before doing anything with it, is it noticably damaged/worn, bear in mind old stone buildings soak up the weather during the harsher months and then dry out.
Internally I will leave to ANOther.
