I need to get a large button mobile phone for my wife.

It'll be PAYG the same as her phone is now and I plan to just use the sim card from her current phone.

Many of the large button phones that I've looked at say they don't work with 3G.

How do I find out if that will be a problem?

She is currently on Orange, (or possibly EE), I can never work that out.

EE own Orange.
EE also did a take over of what was One2One (which was Mercury)

As for will it work on 3G best place to ask is where ever you get the phone from, and if they say it does, and it doesn't, refund please.

I actually like what was Carphonewarehouse as they do seem to be interested in the phone, not the contract. I get most of my phones for CPW

You've missed the point, I'm 100% sure that many of them say they won't work on 3G - but will that be a problem?

Nothing matching my search on Carphone Warehouse.

This won't be a smart phone, just a simple whatever the other (older) type of phone is, but with large buttons.

See below, first line after the larger print.

I think you're better off speaking to EE and find out if your sim is 2G. Explain what you want it for.

but if your sim is 2g EE might change it to 3g for free.
Isn't 2g finishing soon?

I didn't miss the point, you want a phone, large buttons, that will work with your OH's sim card, that's why i said ask where you get the phone from.
Have you looked at the doro 6520 ? (from CPW)

If you aren't using it for internet doesn't need to be 3G.

This might fit the bill https://www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/home/st10724i/ make sure your current phone isn't on "3" though, all other providers it will work with

*assuming the current sim card is a standard size and not one or those micro jobbies.

Cheers wine~o, no internet required, I'm not sure about a fliptop thingy, I doubt it would take her long to snap it off and she may also struggle to open it in a hurry, (i.e. before it switches to answer-phone).

The sim card is a standard size, I'll have to take look at it and see what info I can glean from it, or check with EE about what networks it can/does use once I have any info from it.

That'll have to wait until this snow has gone, no way I'm trotting off up the M27 to Southampton Hospital in this weather.

there are 3 sizes of sims now mini, micro and nano, if you careful you can trim a standard one to size (just google sim template)

unless its needs a internet connection it will be 2G, the easy to use/big button phones are usually basic and only require 2G or even gprs

just a random google link

Well, the hard part now, is finding one with predictive text.

You'd think it was pretty obvious that anyone needing large buttons doesn't want to have to press one button three times to get one letter for a text message wouldn't you?

So to sum up, if anybody knows of one that's :- sim free, large buttons, (proper separate buttons, not a flat keypad where one button runs on to another) not a flip/clamshell type and has predictive text: let me know.

think that's going to be a stretch, but I'm sure there is something out there I looked at the usual suspects but that combo is elusive

:withstupid: I have to agree, I can't help but think that as most don't want such a phone, that means no demand for one so ...............

It certainly is, and yet it seems obvious to me that if you need large buttons then you'll also need predictive text.

My next spec to investigate to try and move forward is:- "Can I turn off the answer-phone on a payg flip-phone"?

you can on payg EE/orange

Orange text. VM OFF to 150

EE text. VOICEMAIL DIVERT OFF to 150

if your using a smart phone it in the menus under forwarding

The more basic phones don't need a powerful processor so will not have the predictive text

I thought my old Nokias were fairly primitive, but they were payg too, and only ever used as a phone for work contacts,so I probably never used half of their potential.

I'll have to get it approved of course.

But it opens the door to a phone that will do what she wants...........

..........and when it becomes the wrong thing to have done, I can tell her it's all your fault.
