It's probably more down to your system.
Have you run any scans for spyware and virus's recently? _________________ http://www.FinchfieldIT.co.uk/index.htm

I agree with RichieP - more to do with your system or even the site you are accessing.
For your system, use something like Adaware and run it several times . May need to defrag your harddrive. Empty your Temp. Internet files (Tools/options/Delete files)
Check your speed using something like this. |

Right I dont think I enabled the cable connection so disregard that, I ran your speedtest Ski,
Wireless
74 KB/s download, 140 KB/s upload 85ms ping 150miles away
Disabled wireless enabled cable
1945KB/s download 345KB/s upload 55ms ping time same destination
The laptop was sat next to the router during both tests with excellent signal strength and 54 mbps link to the router.
Any ideas, I thought things usually die, not deteriorate. _________________ Stella Stella Stella oy oy oy |

That sounds a bit odd. Cabled looks good, exactly what I'd expect for a 2Mb connection.
What router/model do you have ? |

This may sound stupid but just check that your lappy is actually talking via YOUR hub and not connected to someone down the road
Apart from that I've no real suggestions |

A couple of things:
Are you using security on your wireless? It's set to use WEP by default.
Try changing the channel it's broadcasting on. Dial into the router by tyoing 192.168.1.254 into the address bar of your browser and pressing enter.
Look for the channel (I can't remember where) and change it to a different one. _________________ http://www.FinchfieldIT.co.uk/index.htm

Amending the settings 1 by 1 is a good idea. Its something I had to revert to when I got a new lappy. Old lappy worked fine, new 1 wouldn't talk to the outside world. Turned out (by trial and error) that new lappy didn't like pure 'G' mode so I had to set it to both 'B' and 'G' (these refer to the speed standards).
That said, you say that your desktop works fine over wireless so its maybe the way your lappy is responding to these settings.
As for WEP - not the strongest security level. I believe that WEP2 is strong but I've not done much research to determine whether its the best. |
