A couple of days ago I was on my laptop with the charger plugged in and all of a sudden it turned off. Now it only works with the charger plugged in and no longer charges the battery. when you hover the pointer over the battery logo it says plugged in, not charging. is it a simple case of a new battery or will it be something else?

Thanks

Steve

Steve,
Not easy to diagnose just like that.
What make and model of laptop and how old? Is the battery the original?

Try taking the battery out and checking the contacts for sh*t. Does the laptop still work with the battery out?
Put the battery back in and unplug the charger and see if it continues to run.

As it turned off when the charger was plugged in, it could mean a duff battery and the charging lead became disconnected.

It may be worth a trip to a local SMALL computer shop (not the Sniffy Shop) and ask thenm to check out the elctrics for you, because it could have been any of a dozen problems that caused it.

Hi Dave, there is a small computer shop just down the road from me, known for being very good and honest. Will pop down tomorrow and ask them to have a look for me.

Thanks

Steve
