If you are going to ask questions like that I suggest you speak to a builder first. You do not just go and knock out a doorway if you do not know what you are doing. _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

What is very expensive
It could be even more expensive when the walls above come crashing down |

"I had a builder his quote was very expensive so I think I can do it myself"
them's the rules - if someone charges more then you want to pay, you can always do a better job for less

This site is to help diyer's who have some idea of what they are doing,
We are not her to help you make your house come crashing down around your ears.
It is obvious from your first post that you have no idea at all of what you are doing and this is an advanced diy job.
You do not say whether it is an internal wall, external wall, load bearing wall and you do not know what acrows are.
Therefore when someone makes a post like this it is assumed that it is a wind up.
Your local building authority will be able to advise you of exactly how to go about doing this. _________________ DIY | DIY Video |

The advice has been given ..... "Your local building authority will be able to advise you of exactly how to go about doing this."
can't get better advice then that, even if it is not the advice you wanted _________________ I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"

It's very hard for anyone who doesn't have advanced DIY skills.
Take a look at these instructions and then double it because you want to cut through 2 walls (external cavity wall). You'll need a proper lintel installing and you'll need to get a structural engineer to give you the weight loadings in order to get the correct lintel.

How much was the builder going to charge you to do this??
[edit] the instructions above assume you are in a traditional block/brick house and not a timber frame / cob / straw one. _________________ Cheers,

you need to know what load is on this wall, floors above, other walls tied in, were windows are to the side and above,
then you can work out how to support it all while you cut your opening and what lintel to put back in to carry the load,
asking (Whta is thge largest opening I can knock out safely ) deserve = only one brick, two in the wrong place could see you
buried under a heap of rubble.
a drawing, measurements, photo's would help you get the right advice. |
