Hello,
I have a 2-handle kitchen mixer tap, almost identical to the one shown in this thread:
leaking-1-4-turn-mixer-tap-t40795.html

Not leaking constantly: only when hot or cold in use, so I am assuming O-ring(s) gone bad on the stem base.
After using either tap, leaking seen, continuing until stem presumably empty again after turning tap off.

I have undone the ring collar on the stem, which exposed a white split ring. At first I thought it was once whole and now broken, but it does look like it was created split, and is not mean to be water-tight.

I moved the collar up the stem to get it out of the way and then tried heaving on the stem to wiggle it out of the tap base.
Nothing at first, then a bit more elbow and the stem popped up about 10mm.

I could see a rubber seat/washer, but it the stem was still connected by an internal tube that emerged from inside the stem.
I had expected the stem to be one hollow tube; do stems have an inner pipe (e.g. for hot) and an outer for cold?
I can't tell if I had caused the stem to shear off. I doubt it, but I didn't want to pull on the stem any more because I was essentially putting all force on this inner pipe of the stem and didn't want to break anything.

So I put the stem back into the housing, and did the collar back up.
The tap now leaks more impressively than before; full flow on cold makes the stem eject water a few cm up the neck of the stem.

Unless someone can help explain what I am seeing, I'll be calling the plumber.

Many thanks,
B

I would say if it's the same taps the instruction would be the same.

Thanks, but with the spout only lifting a small amount, there's no space to get vaseline into the base: the gap I can peer down is only about 2 or 3mm at the most.
The previous post made it sound like the main base of the stem might be lifting, but catching, and that lubricating it and some up-down motion got the lower O-ring past a narrow point in the base.

In my case, it's only the spout that is lifting, and then only the outer body of the spout with the inner (hot pipe I believe) still caught in the base/body of the tap.

Cheers,
B

Have you tried a spray lubricant.

Nope, but will try cranking it all open again to give it a blast.
Sounds like you don't think I've broken anything so far, so a 2nd foray may be worth it...
thanks,
B
