Very quick and hopefully simple question to answer....I've got someone coming in to re-board my kitchen ceiling. With the gas cooker directly below a bedroom do they need to use fireboard (the pink stuff) or is that just used for boarding garage roofs below a bedroom ?

Thanks for the reply.

They were going to take down the ceiling but I did suggest that they just overboard.

Just thought it was BC rules that any habitable space above an area of increased fire risk had to be boarded with fireboard

How big is this ceiling? I only ask in relation to cost.

There are many different fire regs that apply to different types of buildings, in different circumstances....

If this is your own house then I would suggest they use fire board anyway and just pay the extra few pounds per board in material costs.

By double boarding and skimming you are increasing the fire rating of the ceiling anyway but for the sake of £40 on an average sized ceiling, i'm sure that would help you sleep just that little bit easier at night.

It's an insurance job - already set fire to it (last bit was a poor joke)

Just checking what the rules are just in case the insurance company are doing it on the cheap. Thanks for the info
