your upload speed will always be a lot slower than download ,your isp dictate that im afraid

Gadget you have nothing to be concerned about with those figures.

1024 Kilo Bytes = 1 MegaByte

Your figures translate as 11241 KBPS or 11mb (MegaBytesPerSecond)

As most Internet providers offer speeds UPTO 8mb you are on a very fast connection. So I assume you're on cable and not phone broadband.

The upload speed is defined in your contract and set by the provider, but again that's a very good speed, most people see anything from 128 to 512. 736 upload is quick!

You lucky sods, I'm lucky if I get more than 400Kbps downloading, upload is pathetic as well, but this afternoon it was 7kbps download (seven thousand bits per second) will check tonight and report back.

One more question chaps, I recently cleared about half my desk top icons because I never or rarely use them. Since then I seem to be getting around the net much faster, is this my imagination or did clearing the icons effect the speed?

Can't see how clearing the icons could affect your net, unless they were applications running in the background, in which case removing them would speed up everything.

Just had a thought. One of those applications could have been something to do with the internet. Virus checker perhaps? If it is, then whoever put it there was, how can I put this delicately, not following convention. You really do need to find out what you deleted. If good practice has been followed then only shortcuts woud have been deleted and no harm done, and its just your imagination that the inet is running faster. Are they still in your recycle bin?

Just checked the speed via the tester on the Gadget Show link on Five. five.tv All of 172Kbps! The ISP says there's a fault which they will rectify.

Everything seems to be OK then. Can't offer any other explanation as to why you are running faster though. Perhaps its a co-incidence and your broadband provider did something to their infrastructure.
