Ive just got rid of my single oven and bought a double oven , the problem is my single oven just plugged into the wall socket but my new double oven has alot thicker cable , I was wondering if I need to buy a special socket for this to work.

You will have to refer to the manufacturers instructions to see what power supply you require however a double oven usually requires its own dedicated supply, your old oven was probably a small fan assisted oven that can be plugged into a modern ring main, even then potential ring main loads should be considered, think maybe time to call a qualified electrician in

its worth looking inside the cupboards near the cooker in case its hidden somewhere you haven't noticed or forgot about have you looked at you main board where you turn the house electrics off to see if there's a separate "cooker" mcd/fuse

easiest thing is to look in the fusebox to see if one says "cooker". 99.9% you need a separate circuit for it. they should have asked you this when you bought it.

In the UK the limit for 13A is 3kW and recommended over 2kW when permanent is a dedicated supply. In the rest of Europe they have 16A and radials rather than ring circuits so they can use 3.7kW with a plug so many ovens are built for Europe rather than UK with over 3kW requirement.
Because of the 3.7kW limit ovens, rather than complete cookers, tend to have a power sharing arrangement, so in the main stand alone cookers have better ovens than can be bought for split level. As a result I went for a stand alone cooker as the oven has top, bottom, and back (fan) heat which can all be used together. This needs a 32A supply. Some UK manufactures do make even double ovens with a 13A supply in mind but German stuff in general needs a 16A supply.
