2nd coat has to be applied when the first one has been on the wall for about 10-20mins, just when it's starting to "take", it's hard to explain really, you just have to get used to it lol.

I have a ragini small trowel and one of there pipe trowels for awkward spots. They aren't as good as my marshallton tools, but they do the job.

There are two distinct approaches to a two coat skim.

Some people put the first coat on, trowel it over once and then apply a second shortly afterwards, then finish.

Other (myself included) put the first coat on and trowel it over two or three times and get all the edges and corners done, and perhaps apply the second 30-40 minutes later and quite alot thinner. This thin fresh coat is really to supply the glass smooth finish which is considered to be the mark of a pro by some and a royal pain in the backside by the decorator who follows.

The coats bond together if they are done either of these ways. If you do one one day and one the next, you have simply done two 1st coats, one on top of the other.

I use a small pointing trowel for tight angled corners. Not perfect, but better than many who just " leave it for the decorator"

hand things to keep for tight angles and very small tight areas is old credit, debit, store cards get your self a few of these and you can cut them down to what ever size you need, they also trowel up very nicley as thier just like useing a smaller plastic trowel. :thumbleft:
