JML screw extractor-

you have probably seen these on the TV.

Rounded off screws can be a real pain to remove and so I recently purchased a JML screw extractor set. Today I tried it and it worked pretty well.

I tried it on three screws, which I drove into a block of 3*2 timber and then I rounded off the heads.

The JML screw extractor sucessfully removed two of the three screws.

The one that it did not remove was one that was about 4 inches long and jammed when it was being driven in. Once the head had been rounded there was no chance of removing it.

On the other two screws it worked perfectly. I suppose it is handy to have a set in the toolbox

I filmed the results and will upload when I get time

I am fascinated to see the vid.

I have bought a set of bits for removing screws and nuts with damaged heads in the past and was unimpressed.

i have also sworn off all JML stuff for a long time, after buying two or three 'engenious' ideas that they had marketed, only to find they simply did not work. Can't remember what they were now.

I look forward to seeing the vid.

what was the cost?

I picked up a set of these at Toolfair in Harrogate:-

They work well on rounded off bolts and pan head screws.

good to see that they actually work.

They were about £8 + VAT

The annoying thing is that when I got the set home I realised that there was one missing and so I only have two of them.

They definately worked on the smaller screws, but the one that got stuck on the way in could not be removed.

I'll sort the vid out in the next few days hopefully

Nice Vid! I wonder if it will work better/worse with an Impact driver?

Cheers for the vid, but think you should do another. It would be nice to have a close up of the jml end and some audio explaining how it works.

I know it was quick and you probably will be replacing it. Looked good though. Without knowing how it works you would think all screwdrivers were made of something similar.

Ive got the trend snappy version. I found the trick to using them is a lot of pressure, and as slow as possible. Didnt really work in the impact driver.

I deleted the old video of this as it was in normal quality and there was no narration. Here is the new version including a close up-

Another great video boss :thumbright:

Any chance you could do one on multimeters? That would be really great.
