Is it just me that thinks it's ridiculous that we are spending £9.2Bn on the Olympic Games when we are already in debt, they have £9.2Bn to spare for the Olympics yet they can't reduce fuel prices ::b

The Olympics was financed from that extra lottery draw that ran for about 3 years!

Even so that could have been put to getting us out this s***, I hate seeing all these companies and stuff having to close down and people being laid of. To me it's like if I won the for example £200,000 and I owed money to the bank, morgage, etc and I went out and spent the £200,00o on a ferrari and then people would be annoyed as I've basically got myself in more trouble, just seems to me we could be using this to help our economics out

according to the spin doctors the country as a whole will benefit from the games, for example the 5000 homes being built to house the athletes will be put back into the housing stock now they dont say if these homes will be sold or used for social housing,
short term a lot of jobs created building the stadium and the infrastructure around the area, tourism during the games will provide much needed revenue for the local retailers ,well looks to me like London will benefit not the country as a whole

Exactly, the way I feel is that the money should be injected into the enconomy so as a country we see the bennefit £9.2Bn is a lot of money and why did we need to have a brand new facility, why could they have used what we have and add to it, yes I know that would cost but not as much as whole new stadium. Also the worker's also need to find jobs once the stadiums completed.

And I wonder what percentage of the jobs will actually go to British workers? Bet it'll be a Mickey Startup routine with a stack of immigrant workers doing it for next to nothing. ::b

My mum made a point about this when she saw it on the news later on, she said that she feels it should also go to help sick kids with lukeyma, cancer etc, which is a good point when you see these hospital programes and all the sick and ill kids in there
