i've decided to join the 21st century and get an ipod, mrs O wants one too. any advice on what capacity to get? I am fed up of listening to the crap on radio at work so i want something to get loads of albums on, i don't want to be fannying around puttting songs on it every night. and what sort of prices are they? and are they robust enough to take to work every day?

owen i have just gor the 80gb one and as i and hanky have said they are fantastic. i have a slicone cover that goes over it and it really protects it. i too dont listen to the radio anymore and havnt done for a good year really since i got my first one.
i would say get the biggest you can get. the 80 is online for around 220 but is better value than the 8gb for 170.
putting songs on it couldnt be easier. just open throw it in your disc drive and itunes automaticly imprts it. one thing i like about itunes is that is so easy.
mrs panlid now has my ipod nano and she loves it. she wasnt bothered at first but now has it always in her bag.
get a car kit with it as well. you can get them online for about 20 and are well worth it. no more cd's ina ll the compartments in your car.
i have this one.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-iTrip-Auto-Transmitter-Charger/dp/B000BWACX2/ref=pd_bbs_4/203-5263141-6129505?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1179047952&sr=8-4
it charges the ipod as well and doesnt need batteries. ive had a few and this one imo is the best.

cheers panny. roughly how many albums can you get on the 80gb( i know it depends on compression rate)? also how much do you get on the nano as mrs O likes the look of that as it is smaller.

on the nano i had about 25 albums.
just checked as i am still loading all my albums onto my new 80 gig
at the moment i have 1200 songs on it and 500 photos. it has used up 4.78 out og 80gb. bare in mind i have alot of music where songs can last for 20 minutes, floyd, miles davis, cream etc.
the nano is great and you can always take off albums that you are fed up with so it is ok.
for me i wanted one that i could put my whole cd collection on.

80gb............your daft if you spend a little less on a smaller one, as the 80 gb one isnt that much more.

Its great when you downloads all sorts of podcast, put all you albums on it, and your friends albums, and it still isnt even 1/3 full

got the wife's from john lewis, at tht time they gave you a free 3 year warranty (its £39 now)

yep been looking on t'internet, and although i think 30gb would probably be big enough i might as well go for the 80gb. as for colour, i like the black.

also just found out that my new car is compatible with an ipod, so if i get the proper cable i can plug it in without bothering with the FM transmitter stuff, it can then be controlled from the stereo and the steering wheel controls

so i have to have one now, just been to tescos but mrs O wouldn't let me buy one, apparently i have to wait till my birthday (about 6 weeks), i feel like i'm 8 years old again Laughing

I got a 20gb Ipod mini a couple of years ago, and was suprised how easy it was to fill it, and I am having to choose which songs to delete as I buy new albums.

Should have bought one with a much bigger memory.

I would say get one as big as you can afford. Smile

The dial on the front isn't a control........It's a Target! A target for when a normal guy, who doesn't need a gadget to make up for the hole in my life finally loses it and takes to the highest building in London with a snipers rifle to finally rid the world of the annoyence of tinny music on the Underground, and joggers trying to look cool with ipod arm bands, and hour long discussions in the office about ipod socks and there various colours, and song swaping, and ... and .....and ........And I want one! Crying

ipod owner = slim, young, smug, fashion victim, Toyota Prius driving, metrosexual Guardian reader who is comfortable wearing marigolds and tidying up after his attorney wife and 2 perfect public school children Tarquin and Clarissa

Real men = pot bellied, real ripped denim jeans wearing, middle aged men, tunelessly whistling and humming sad 80's power ballads, driving a beat up estate whilst wishing they had enough hair to grow a mullet to help pull the fit tart at the local

Hey, I enjoy music and don't own an IPod for 2 reasons
1. I can't fricking afford one. I've got a house to do up and can't go spending money on gadgets (Except tools)
2. I'm not a socially inept retard who finds the only way of coping outside my front door is to ignore the world, and people around me, by plugging in 24/7

Why do people see the Ipod as an answer to a problem that has dogged man kind for years? It's Bull! The Ipod, and people attitudes towards it, is a marketing classic! Invent the device and then create the market. Genius! Most people with and Ipod believe they can't live without it. THEY'RE the Retards!
