I have recently set up as a self employed painter and decorator.

I am trying to find out how to get more work (aren't we all Rolling Eyes )

I heard about agents who get work, often insurance jobs and then get individual contractors to do the various parts. Does anyone know how to find these companies or have any other good ideas for introductions.

Thanks

Welcome to UHM. Hello

The insureance market is pretty well tied up, there are a lot of very big comps in it.
Agencyes would want a percent of the cost, avoid them, local paper, leaflets are the best.

Welcome to the forum,

With regard to agencies that offer work, to be honest I would steer clear, as its either going to be some sort of con or the rate or finders fee is going to be insane and not worth the effort.

As your starting up you need to be aware of all the shysters that will suddenly get on the phone promising you the earth for small investments, these thieving gits will range from charity wall planners, work agencies and some web promotion firms (although there are many people in the trade that are reputable, including some of the people on here, before I get lynched), for example bad = ufindus!

One bunch tried to sell me what they called qualified leads of future works, but drill down into their info and all they were providing were names and addresses of company's and individuals that applied for planning permission - why pay for that when its all available free at your local planning office and also published in your free local papers sometimes.

The cheapest and often most successful is a few small cards in local shops, a couple of quid a month per card and they can lead to some nice jobs, failing that get your vehicle signed up with vinyls or mag signs and check out the rates of the local news papers. With time you wont need to advertise due to reputation and word of mouth recommendations.

Good luck
