Ive been googling like made all afternoon trying to find a comparison chart for different types of insulation and the returns you get from it

I saw one somewhere that stated the cost of loft insulation was normally recoverable between one and two years...double glazing 25-30 years!!!

Bit different to what the reps says when they come out isnt it..then again, they are reps!

Has anyone got a decent link to a comparison site?

Thanks.

Hi Have Brush Will Travel,

Perhaps not quite what you are after (and maybe you've seen it already) - but worth a look:

A lot of these payback periods are based on cost of energy that is out of date, so a 20 year packback may well be 12 years now, for example.

Here is a RICS report of payback periods that are totally ridiculous the other way .... http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/solar-panels-take-100-years-to-pay-back-installation-costs-917202.html

and something that is slightly less biased ....

Sorry People, we all need to start making savings in energy use.

The payback should not be a consideration, instead consider it added value to the property.

The payback is when you put the house on the market and find it's several thousands more valuable than the neighbours.

quite correct Scruff; something alot of surveys leave out.

also if you consider a vast bulk of current energy is non renewable and hence will never really get cheaper, in 5 yrs time the pay back period could have halved.

energy has gone up around 40% in the last year or so; that will knock a big dent into payback periods calculated two yrs ago.

and besides it gives you a bit more freedom and cannot be held to ransom by some fat cat at British Gas.
