Heya, I tried installing a top light for my mum today and blew the fuse lol As she is not impressed thought I'd better ask for advice lol

The ceiling has three cables coming from it. There are three red wires joined together. Two earths joined, two black and one light blue. On the light itself there is one earth, one brown and one royal blue. Which goes to which?

I put the brown with the red. Earth to earth, then left out the black and did blue to blue, but nothing happened. So I joined the black with the blue, the lights worked but the light switch was off at the time, so mum turned it on and that is when it blew! I dont get where the black should go? Or what else I am doing wrong?

The house is about 30 years old and I was using one of those plugs which you thread in the screw it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

No you don't use the red, one red is the live from the previous light..one is the live to the next light...one is the live that goes to the switch..

...the blue in your case is switched live/ live return from the light switch..

The blacks are the neutrals...
