Im no sparky..but im sure something is wrong here...note the the 20 amp fuse on the right..it doesnt sit tight in the holder and although you cant see it in the picture the brass bits on the underside of the fuse (where the wire goes through) are actually exposed..as it the whole box...and its a different type to the others..and the wires going through the vent...daughter had a serious belt tonight from a socket in the house she is renting..and the trp didnt kick in either

Any opinions are gratefully received..

Yes you are right the fuse second from the left of the pic is a cockoo aright and needs replaceing with a cartridge fuse and carrier.
As a rented property it sould have had a periodic inspection report before it is let to any new tenant which you should have been given a copy if not you can ask to see it from your landlord.

Cheers Deck...

The whole thing looks poor...but the fuses, I think, are the biggest problem..

Agree with VI the second from the left fuse is upside down making it not sit tightly in its holder.
Rewirable fuses are still acceptable if the correction factors are used for the current carrying capacity of the cables so dont worry about that. The problem is oporator error and the "Illegal" comment is not realy valid.

The Installation should have a periodic inspection though.

Have a look on that sticker on the fuse board and it will tell you when it was last inspected (hopefully) if not then as said before the landlord has a respponsibility to have it tested prior to any new tennants taking over and should have a copy to give you. As for your daughter getting a belt, what was she doing when she recieved it as it may have not been the type of occurrance that would cause the main trip to operate.

Thanks all...daughter was attempting to pull a pplug from the wall socket at time time..the plug (I we found after) was actually wet as it was behind a washing machine...I tohught it should have tripped out.

I have tried the fuse both ways but it will not fit in the holder either way...One thing I also noticed...the 30 amp wire was not threaded through the centre ceramic part of the fuse..it was on the outside...I have nver seen that done.

The whole thing...the way the wires are situated etc just looks really shoddy..

hanks for all the comments though...I will check the see when it was inspected in a short while.

Put the wire through the middle and it will fit snug back into the holder.

The trip will only trip at a predetermined level and it is possible to have a nip without tripping. The trip may also be 100 or even 300mA check the rating. Of course the trip could be faulty as well.
