As per the subject, just hung a Stollet pendant lamp but the only wire connectors available were Neutral and Live and nowhere for the Earth. The fitting I'm replacing was a standard plastic fitting connected Live, Neutral and Earth. So I've connected the Stollet to the live (brown) and Neutral (blue) and used insulaing tape to tie off the Earth.

Instuction booklet is diagrams only and only showed two wires throughout so I'm assuming th e Stollet must not need an earth.

All seems to be working ok. Just double-checking - sound alright to you guys?

Stollet is here

Cheers

The Ikea website does not give much information about the wiring.

It may be double insulated and not require an earth.

If there is no mention of an earth wire in the instructions then it must be double insulated and not require earthing.

it's a low voltage fitting. because the voltage is low the rules differ and they get away with it for that reason. yes there will be an incoming 240v live but it will go straight into the transformer. the output will be the part that sits near the metal casing and that being 12V, it wouldn't hurt anybody.

Apologies for double posting, but you might be able to answer this one....

Just bought a Stollet Hanging lamp from Ikea and the cable that connects the bulbs to the power is hugely long. The metal wire can be adjusted, but the cable just hangs there.

This is a really daft question!!

Do I have to cut the cable (and then reconnect the moulded plug) to shorten it, or can it just be wrapped up inside the top section of the light?
One friend thinks that wrapping the excess cable inside the metal casing could be dangerous if it gets hot.
